Family stunned to receive text messages from phone they buried with their late grandmother

The Emerson family, from South Shields, left the mobile in their late grandmother's coffin so they could send her texts as a way to deal with their grief, but were left horrified when they started receiving replies from 'beyond the grave'.
The mystery user sent Cheri Emerson (pictured, centre, with uncle Graham Emerson), the granddaughter of Lesley Emerson, a text saying: 'I'm watching over you' (inset). The family phoned the number and the man apologised. Network provider 02 had promised to put the phone number out of service after Mrs Emerson (left) died, but instead sold it to giffgaff, who gave it to a new customer.
