Chinese boy, 9, had his arm ripped off by bear he tried to pat at zoo
Witnesses watched in horror as medics treated the blood-soaked boy (right), whose arm (in the bear's cage, left) was torn off by the bear at a zoo in Pingdingshan, China.
Blood streams down his shirt but the child, nine, does not cry while medics work on his gaping wound. His severed limb can still be seen laying on the floor of the bear's enclosure. Witnesses spoke of the terrifying moment the child reached through the bars. The animal grappled with the boy for 10 minutes before eventually tearing the arm free. It took 20 minutes for zoo staff tor retrieve it from the cage. Zhang's parents have blamed the zoo for 'ruining their family'.
