Pink apples to go on sale in Tesco

An award-winning fruit grower has struck a deal with Tesco in England to trial a newly-developed yellow and orange-skinned apple with pink flesh.

The unusual variety – named Surprize and described by Tesco as a “real head-turner” – has been bred by apple expert William Barnett at a farm in Tillington, near Hereford in England.
Limited supplies of Surprize will go on sale at 120 Tesco stores around the UK tomorrow, costing £1.75 for a pack of four.
Tesco fruit product developer Ciara Grace said: “This apple literally stops people in their tracks on account of its unusual pale orange and yellow skin.
“This is the first time that it’s ever gone on sale and there are only limited supplies but if it’s a success we will stock it again next year.”
