Google's driverless car

Google's driverless car prototype at their California campus

Caroline Graham becomes the first non-American to get into the passenger seat - in fact, they're all passenger seats - of Google's first driverless car.
Dozens of sensors allows the new model to 'see' the world in 3D and react to everything from traffic lights to cyclists' hand signals. It has a 360-degree field of view and can see for more than 300ft. An impact-proof and heat proof does the 'driving' and it is programmed to avoid impact in almost every senario. Traffic cones, for example will cause the Google Car to change lane.
