A news producer for global TV news network CNN was left injured after being hit by a stun grenade fired by police amid trouble on the opening day of the World Cup.
The tournament kicks off in Rio on Thursday evening, but the worst of the predicted pre-event trouble was seen in Sao Paulo, which is where Barabara Arvanditis was when she got caught up in the crossfire.
Police apparently resorted to the use of stun grenades to quell the uprising, leaving Arvanditis "injured and bleeding", as seen in the photo above shared on Twitter by freelance reporter Ben Tavener.
Chillingly, CNN's Brazilian bureau chief Shasta Darlington had not long previously retweeted a picture of a grim-looking final briefing given to thousands of Sao Paulo police ahead of the World Cup.
