The blasts ripped through a bus shelter and tourist hotel in the Mwembe Tayari area near to the centre of Mombasa, which is a popular destination for western tourists. The explosions happened simultaneously around 8pm and it is thought al Qaeda-linked Somali group al Shabaab is behind the attack, although nobody as yet claimed responsibility.
