Woman cancelled her brother’s wedding because she didn’t like his fiancée

A woman who secretly cancelled her brother’s wedding because she didn’t like his fiancee was jailed today.

Ann Duffy, 50, phoned Plymouth Register Office, in Devon, pretending to be the bride-to-be, Sandra Hardy, 28, to stop her marriage with 52-year-old David Greatrex.
After calling off the wedding, she rang her brother and told him: ‘I have saved you on the divorce.’

Duffy failed to ruin the day, though, and the couple were able to reinstate the wedding and married 20 days later as they had planned.
But the couple say Duffy was so determined that she turned up at Plymouth Register Office during the wedding and showered them with abuse as they left as husband and wife.
Her scheme got her in trouble with the law after father-of-four Mr Greatrex and his wife reported the deception to police.
Duffy, who had introduced the pair in 2012 after befriending Ms Hardy, was jailed for eight weeks at Plymouth Magistrates' Court.
