Revenue using social networks to catch tax cheats

Social networks like Twitter and Facebook are now being used to tackle tax cheats.

The Finance Minister Michael Noonan said it is part of the armoury being used by Revenue.
He has told the Finance Committee that Revenue has powers to gather information against those not paying what they owe.
Mr Noonan said: "To detect those involved in tax evasion, the shadow economy and smuggling activities, Revenue uses big data and innovative technology, such as social network analysis and predictive analytics."
