THIEVES broke into Boyzone star Keith Duffy’s home while he played the biggest date of his comeback tour.
The Herald has learned that gardai are investigating the burglary at the luxury property in north Dublin that occurred while Duffy performed at the O2 in London on Boyzone's BZ20 anniversary tour.
SMASHED
His wife Lisa and two children were attending the concert when thieves smashed down the door.
“Keith didn't find out what happened until he came off stage in London. He was devastated,” an insider said.
The 39-year-old singer and actor was said to be “stunned” because his home was protected by CCTV cameras.
However, a source said that footage of the intruders, who removed the front gate before smashing down the door, was caught on camera.
A three-strong gang – two men from inner city Dublin and another from Coolock – are suspected of being behind the break-in.
A garda spokesperson said: “Gardai are investigating a burglary in the Roganstown area on December 20.”
Neighbours are said to have alerted gardai to the break-in while it was taking place. Duffy was unable to return to Dublin as he had two more dates to complete of the band’s tour, but it is understood he contacted friends to secure the family home as soon as he learned the news.
He declined to comment when contacted last night.
FUNDRAISING
Friends have praised his decision to go ahead with a special New Year's Eve fundraising party in Leeson Street club House in aid of the Irish Wheelchair Association.
Duffy tweeted the following day: “Let's greet the New Year with an open heart with open arms but most important an open mind. Only look down on people with a helping hand up.”
