British diplomat falls to his death from seventh floor hotel window in Romania

A British man has died after falling from a hotel window in north-west Romania.

Local TV and news agencies have reported that the 47-year old was a diplomat, and his death has been described as a suicide. 

The man died after falling from the top floor of the hotel in the city of Baia Mare.

Police spokeswoman Dumitrita Rus said that an investigation was underway, but she declined to provide further information.

Realitatea TV reported the man was a diplomat at the British embassy and that he jumped from the seventh floor of the Mara Hotel, broadcasting images of a body in a white sheet being put into a vehicle.

Police swarmed outside of the hotel to cordon off the area, covering the body in a white sheet to shield it from the public's view.
