Pastor attacks wife with machete for not attending prayer meetings

The victim was critically wounded for refusing to attend church events

A 45-year-old pastor of The Apostolic Church in Ogun State, Daniel Samuel, has been arrested by police after allegedly attacking his wife with a machete. The victim is now on danger list at Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta, police said.

The clergy attacked his wife, Patience, after accusing her of repeatedly ignoring his directive to participate in prayer meetings and other church programmes.

PREMIUM TIMES learnt that on the day of the attack, the pastor who oversees a church in Ode-Remo town, travelled to his wife’s place of work in Owode-Egba in Obafemi Owode local government area of Ogun State, and violently attacked her following an argument between them.

Realising the scale of his action, the pastor allegedly raised alarm in the community and fooled residents that the victim was attacked by unknown assailants. He also later raced to police station to lodge a complaint.

The victim, inflicted with a deep cut on her neck, is a mother of five said to be a petty trader who sells firewood, charcoal and food at Redemption camp along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

Speaking on the development, a senior brother of the victim, Samson Akpikie, said a family meeting was earlier scheduled for Sunday, December 15, 2013, over the couple’s differences before the sad incident took place.

However, upon further investigation by the police, the husband was said to have confessed to the crime and he was subsequently detained.

When contacted, Ogun Command Police Public Relations Officer Muyiwa Adejobi confirmed the incident and said the pastor will soon be charged to court.

He explained that the pastor initially lied to the Police before he later confessed after interrogation adding that the Pastor will be charged for false information and wounding.

“The Pastor is with us, he initially lied to the Police that the wife was attacked by some men but later confessed after interrogation. As such he will soon be charged to court for false information and wounding,” the PPRO said.
