How old is too old to get married?
Nigeria's oldest preacher, Samuel Akinbode Sadela, age 107, says he derived his strength from God after marrying a 30-year woman. The founder of the Gospel Apostolic Church has been a preacher for 75 years. "The Lord is my strength. I am very strong and energetic,'' members of his congregation quoted him as saying today after the wedding in Lagos.
Sadela was married for the first time in 1934, and the marriage lasted for 21 years. None of his seven children lived beyond infancy. A second marriage, consummated in 1965, was blessed with four children, but only two survived. His second wife died in 2001.
And now, he has met the new woman of his life, who also happens to be 77 years younger than he is.
The marriage with Christiana Sadela is "a fulfilment of the scripture and worthy of thanksgiving and appreciation to God'', his church said. "Nothing is impossible for God,'' it said.
Impossible? I could think of another few words for it.
